Introduction to an OU Cheerleader

Hi! My name is Bailey Farmer and I am a junior at OU. I am an advertising major and also minoring in health and exercise minor and Spanish.

I was born in California and moved to Southlake, Texas when I was 3. Southlake is a suburb, 30 minutes outside of Dallas and Fort Worth. I enjoy being in the middle of these two awesome cities and only 10 minutes away from the DFW Airport. Southlake is a such a beautiful city family oriented community.

I am also a third-year on the OU All-Girl cheerleading team. I have been cheering since I was 9 and my love and passion for the sport hasn't changed at all over the years. I remember how ecstatic I was when I made the team at the end of my senior year of highs school. I struggle with ankle issues from multiple previous injuries, overuse, and the excess pounding and stress that cheer puts on my body. Regardless of the pain, I am so blessed to be able to do what I love for my university and so thankful for all the opportunities this team as to offer. I am also so lucky to be able to share this experience and cheer with my best friends.

In high school, besides cheerleading, I was very involved in track. I ran the 400 meters and 4x4 relay. I had to give track up in college in order to cheer. I still run everyday, reliving my glory days at the OU track. I also am avid workout fanatic and love to be active.

I am an active member of the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma. I am very thankful for my sisters, pledge class, and to be a part of a chapter that shares my beliefs, goals, and morals.

I love to cook. My mom and her mom are both excellent cooks. Growing up, I always aspired to cook as well as they both do so I decided to teach myself how to cook when I moved into my house last May. It has become something I look forward to doing everyday.

When I'm not cooking, I enjoy eating Mexican Food at Mi Cocina or enjoying a nice steak at Bob's Steakhouse. I have recently discovered that I like sushi and have been trying new things on the menu each time I'm at a sushi restaurant. However, my absolute favorite food in the entire world is chocolate and peanut butter. I could not think of a more perfect combination of foods. I love sweets and desserts in any way, shape, or form. Chocolate is my weakness.

My family is the most important thing in my life. I love going home to visit them and I love that they come up very frequently to watch me cheer. We enjoy traveling to different countries for vacations and spending time together. My sister, Keaton, is a freshman at TCU and my brother, Jordan, works and lives in St. Louis.

Jackson is my pride and joy, and the family pet. He is a miniature schnauzer and is 15 years old. He is  and old soul but is in such great shape due to the exercise, special food, and love and affection that we give him.

I am also very close with my extended family. We have traditions each year including summer vacations to Beaver Lake, Thanksgiving spent in Dallas or Chicago, and Christmas spent with all 50 members in Kansas.

Lastly, I enjoy going to the beach, wake boarding, snow skiing, bing watching on Netflix (I recently discovered Gossip Girl and am obsessed), eating chocolate, and taking long naps.

I am very excited for another semester at OU and can't believe I am already over half way done with college!!!

  1. Hi Bailey! I'm also a Spanish minor, and I ran cross country in high school! I don't run every day now like you though. That's awesome, and takes some real dedication without having a track coach making you do it!

Jackson is so cute in his Christmas socks! One of my best friends has schnauzers, so I definitely know that they're great dogs!

  2. Hey Bailey! I am an HES major so I hope you're enjoying your HES classes as much as I am! Southlake is beautiful, my big's boyfriend is from there and when we visited it was a great city! I also danced through high school, so I can imagine the fun that cheerleading in college would be. And how stressful it might be with all of the traveling!

  3. Hi Bailey! It has been a while since there was a cheerleader in class... although there is usually someone from the Pride. Do you know Chelsey? She is Indian Epics and is in the Pride; here is her blog. And your Jackson is an absolute cutie! Maybe you can make some memes with his picture. I am always sharing the growth mindset cats... so this class can use some adorable dog energy too! I hope the flexibility of the online class will help you with your busy travel and training schedule. Thanks for sharing the great pix, and I think it is so cool that people in class will be able to see you at games and on TV. Maybe you could use "cheerleading" as a storytelling style, imagining that there are cheerleaders their with great yells and jumps to help the heroes as they go out to fight their foes. :-)

  4. You have such an interesting life, thanks for sharing so much fun stuff! That's sad about your ankle problems, but I think it's so strong of you to power through to keep doing what you love. I also love Mexican food, steaks, and chocolate. Its funny because every time I go back home my mom asks what she should cook, and it's pretty much a guarantee that I wants steaks, guacamole, and a chocolate pie sometime over the weekend. Your dog is so adorable, I can't believe he's 15. He looks so spry, you guys must be doing a great job loving him!

  5. Hi Bailey! You seem like a very well-rounded person! It looks like we both minored in Spanish so that's something that we have in common. Do you plan on studying abroad in a Spanish-speaking country? Your dog is absolutely precious! He reminds me of the schnauzer from Disney's Lady and the Tramp. I like how you're close to your immediate family and your extended family. In my culture, having strong roots in your family is a sign of spiritual wellness (empathy, sharing love, supportive, etc.).

  6. Hey Bailey,

First of all, I love the layout of your blog! The words really pop and it looks really clean. And I love all the photos; that makes it easy to imagine your life as you describe it!

I've always kind of wondered what it's like to be an OU cheerleader! That's great that you're doing something you love, and hopefully get to continue until you graduate. I ran track in high school too, and people say, "Once you're a runner, you're always a runner." I think that's pretty accurate. I don't run much anymore (I do CrossFit), but when running comes up in the workout, I'm always glad! So that's good that you're still making time for it.

I love your dog! He's so cute in those little socks.

Are those restaurants you mentioned in Southlake? I've never heard of them... and I love Mexican food! :D Also, chocolate and peanut butter are definitely my favorites, too. Especially peanut butter. I put it on EVERYTHING.

    Nice to meet you!

  8. Bailey,
Time flies so fast! I cannot believe I am almost done with college myself either. Beaver Lake looks and sounds very beautiful! I would love to visit there someday. My Dad lives in McKinney, Texas which is also a suburb of Dallas and I am sure very close to South Lake ( I believe I have drove through there?). Long naps and sleep are a HUGE necessity of mine; without enough sleep, I am literally useless...I was in a fraternity my freshman and sophomore year here at OU, but unfortunately had to drop. I still made so many good friends I still hangout with today from that experience.

  9. Hey Bailey! Thats so cool you're from Southlake! I lived there for 7 years when I was 3mo till I was 7! Thats awesome you have remained a cheerleader for all of these years! I was a gymnast for 11 years and it put so much strain on my body I had to quit. You're very tough. Thats also cool you love to workout and run everyday! I run everyday but I hate it, but I love cake so.... Like you said you love sweets and deserts I do too! I could easily eat 5 chocolate sprinkle donuts with no hesitation, and then immediately regret it! Well good luck with the rest of your semester!

  10. Hi! Oh my goodness we have so much in common! First of all Jackson is adorable and looks like my dog Reba though a bit more beardy. Also, I was born in Texas, but just barely. My family had just moved from California where both of my siblings were born. I am also an HES minor and I love cooking and Mexican food. So many things in common! I look forward to learning more about you and reading your stories!

  11. Hi. I am kind of jealous of how much you like to work out. I am working on getting into shape, but I find that I have to motive myself to do any kind of exercise. I did cheerleading for one year in high school so I know much much work it takes. I'm impressed that you are still doing this in college, especially because of the amount of gymnastic skill it takes to make a college team. Your major is very suited for the activities you like to do.

  12. Hi Bailey!
I'm also an advertising major, so I wonder if we've ever had any classes together! This sounds lame, but I absolutely love the Gaylord college and am always excited to meet other people who are a part of it. I also am a huge fan of long naps, so we can totally relate on that. My boyfriend always jokes that he never gets to see me because I'm either in class or asleep. Oops, sorry not sorry. I hope you have a good semester!

  13. Hey Bailey! It was nice getting to read your introduction and learn a little bit about you. South lake sounds like an awesome place to live especially because it is between two awesome cities. That is cool you get to cheer at OU. I bet the view of the games is pretty fun from on the field. I hope the ankle holds up and that you don't have to overuse it too much. I am a major in Health and exercise Science so I also share that interest. I think it is so awesome that you get all your family together at Christmas because my family does something similar and it is my favorite part of Christmas. I hope you have a good rest of the year!

  14. Hi Bailey! I'm also an advertising major and Spanish minor, and I'm from Colleyville, which is super close to Southlake! That's so cool that you've cheered for so long and have been able to continue cheering for OU. It's great that you've found something you're passionate about and have kept up with it for so long. I also thought it was really cool that your family always meets up for holidays, I wish my family was that close! Good luck with the rest of the semester!
